A business with less than R5 million annual turnover is considered an “exempted micro enterprise” (EME) and is BBBEE compliant.
A business with R5million-R35 million annual turnover is considered a “qualifying small enterprise” (QSE) and is required to choose any four of the seven pillars of BBBEE to apply.
Large businesses (generic enterprises) with an annual turnover of over R35 million are required to:
- Spend a minimum of 10% of their total procurement spend with small businesses to maximise their BBBEE points
- Use 3% of their net profit after tax for developing and assisting small businesses
- In addition, all spend by a large business on a 50% black-owned business will result in the business receiving extra recognition for the spend incurred.
